As reported in the Maine Morning Star, more than 60,000 Mainers have seen their health insurance premiums skyrocket this year, forcing thousands to now live without insurance coverage at all. “Now, thousands are going uninsured, and a lot more are choosing plans that only cover the bare minimum, based on preliminary enrollment data from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.”

The Bangor Daily News reports: “As the war in Iran rages on, mortgage rates are going up … Late March saw the biggest one-week surge since April 2025, when the White House made its first shock-and-awe tariff announcements.”  This cost increase comes amid a growing affordability crisis in Maine, with “many Americans struggling to afford higher prices on everything from milk to gas.”

Maine Public Radio reports that Meredith Eilers, a mother of three, said her premiums are set to “skyrocket to more than $1,400 a month” after health care tax credits expired. This marks a roughly nine-fold increase from what she had previously been paying.
